The main Hereford Christmas Lights Switch-On is set to take place in High Town, Hereford, in November.

Here is what we know so far about Hereford's Christmas lights switch-on.

Hereford Christmas Lights Switch-On

The main Christmas lights switch-on will take place in High Town, Hereford, on November 22.

The date was announced by Hereford BID, with further event details released by Sunshine Radio.

High Town, Hereford

As in previous years, celebrations are expected to centre on High Town, Hereford’s main shopping and events area.

The annual switch-on traditionally attracts large crowds to the city centre, creating a festive atmosphere and helping launch the Christmas shopping season.

Live entertainment in Hereford

The event has become known for its live entertainment programme.

Previous years have featured performances from Eternal, the Fast Food Rockers, Betty Boo and Let Loose.

Pop group East 17 will top the bill this year. The band is best known for their 1994 festive chart-topper Stay Another Day, which reached Christmas number one and remains one of the UK's best-loved seasonal songs.

Announcing the line-up, organisers Sunshine Radio said: "From House of Love and Deep to Stay Another Day, the boys have racked up 16 Top 40 hits."

The broadcaster added that visitors will also have the chance to win a Golden Ticket to Lakefest, while vocal group Got to Sing and rising local singer Flora Fiora will perform on the Sunshine Big Stage. Pop star Chesney Hawkes will also make a video appearance as part of the countdown to the switch-on.

The lights will be switched on at 5pm, although festivities in High Town are due to begin at 3.15pm.

Hereford city centre businesses

The event is one of Hereford’s biggest annual festive attractions and is expected to bring thousands of visitors into the city centre.

Local businesses often benefit from increased footfall as shoppers combine the switch-on with festive shopping, dining and seasonal activities.
