A clean-up operation is under way on a Herefordshire road after large amounts of mud and surface water created hazardous conditions for drivers.

Workers have been pictured clearing mud from the Stoke Edith Road between the A438 and A4103, where drivers were warned to take extra care after persistent rain and agricultural activity left sections of the route slippery.

The road became caked in mud as wet weather mixed with soil dragged from surrounding fields during seasonal farming work.

Photographs taken today show efforts being made to clear affected sections of the road in a bid to improve conditions for motorists.

Drivers had reported stretches of mud across the road surface, while heavy rainfall led to standing water in places, increasing the risk of skidding and longer stopping distances.

The route is a well-used link between the A438 Hereford to Ledbury and A4103 Hereford to Worcester roads and can carry significant traffic, particularly during peak commuting periods.
