Pupils are settling into a brand-new £10 million school building.

The state-of-the-art facility at Peterchurch Primary School officially opened on Monday, September 7.

The new building increases the school’s capacity from 105 to 140 pupils and was handed over to Herefordshire Council and the school on Friday, September 4 ahead of pupils arriving for the start of the new school year.

Councillor Ivan Powell, cabinet member for children and young people at Herefordshire Council, said: "It is fantastic to see Peterchurch pupils starting the new school year in this wonderful new building.

"This is a major investment in the future of children and families in the Golden Valley, providing a modern, purpose-built school that can meet the needs of the community for years to come.

"I’d like to thank everyone involved in delivering the project and, most importantly, the pupils, staff and families for their patience while this important work has taken place."

Work now moves into phase two, which includes demolishing the old school building and completing external works.

This is expected to be finished by the end of January 2027.

The project is being delivered by Tilbury Douglas Construction in partnership with Herefordshire Council’s Capital Projects team.

Nia Powell, headteacher at Peterchurch Primary School, said: "It’s fantastic to be working in partnership with Herefordshire Council to ensure our children have the best possible educational experience in a modern, purpose-built environment.

“The new school provides a wonderful setting for our pupils to learn, grow and thrive, and we’re delighted to welcome our children into their new school as we begin this exciting new chapter.”
