Amended plans submitted for six new homes in Woolhope

The proposed scheme, which involves the construction of a mix of bungalows and houses, is located on land at the southern edge of the village and has recently been amended to address drainage concerns.

The application describes a revised drainage strategy that includes foul water connections near the north-east boundary and the use of soakaways for surface water management.

The design also incorporates a blend of 2-bedroom bungalows and 3-bedroom houses.

Two of the houses are proposed as a pair of 3-bed dwellings with a shared garage, while the remaining four dwellings are detached.

Each bungalow would be allocated two parking spaces, and the detached houses would feature integral garages and two additional spaces within the property boundary.

The planning statement said: "The proposed dwellings have a traditional and attractive design in keeping with the rural vernacular.

"The house-types are bound by themes of commonality, i.e. their palette of materials and elements of detailed design, but in providing a genuine mix of housing, vary substantially in terms of form and massing."

Access to the site would be via the existing field gate at the north-east corner, with plans to remove part of the hedgerow to create the required visibility splays.

The application notes that the land falls within the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and is adjacent to Woolhope’s conservation area.

A planning statement said: "The Site itself consists of a small parcel of gently sloping land approximately 0.38 hectares in extent, within a single small field which was formerly an orchard."

The land is currently used as pasture, with some remaining orchard trees.

A decision on the revised application is expected on September 3.
