Dogs have been banned from a popular Herefordshire event this summer with organisers saying their hands are tied.
The Bromyard Gala returns this year for the first time since 2022 but for the first time, dogs are not welcome at the event. Previously, the gala welcomed well-behaved dogs on leads.
In a brief statement, the gala said: "Unfortunately we have to say no dogs, following talks with our landowners. Many thanks for your cooperation."
It later added: "Just to be clear, this is not a gala decision and has come from our landlords. Unfortunately our hands are tied. Our apologies."
Dating back to 1967, the Bromyard Gala has long been a popular event in the county, first held at Broadbridge before moving to Mintridge and latterly the Burgess.
The 2026 event marks a welcome return for the event, which has not been held since 2022 as a result of rising costs and a lack of volunteers.
