An award-winning musician is set to perform at Hereford Cathedral later this month.

Roger Sayer will take to the stage on Tuesday, June 9, for a concert titled Interstellar: From Space to Earth, performing on the cathedral’s historic Willis organ.

He was a prize winner at the 1989 St Albans International Organ Competition and won all the organ prizes at the Royal College of Music.

Mr Sayer said: "Hereford Cathedral’s Willis organ is so well-suited to all kinds of music, whether traditional or modern, and I’m looking forward to playing this wonderfully varied range of pieces on this great instrument."

The programme will include a mix of sci-fi and cinema-inspired organ pieces, including Hans Zimmer’s Interstellar Suite.

Other highlights will include the Thunderbirds Theme, John Williams’ Princess Leia Theme, the Imperial March from Star Wars, and Elgar’s Imperial March.

Peter Dyke, assistant director of music at Hereford Cathedral, said: "I’m tremendously excited about Roger’s concert, which gives a chance to hear well-known film music and some of the best original organ music."
