A vacant shop in the middle of Hereford is about to become a place for board gaming, socialising and “getting away from screens”.

A licensing application is currently being considered by Herefordshire Council that would enable the new Dice Box Board & Brick Lounge in the former Shoe Zone at 10 Eign Gate to serve alcohol until 11pm and until 6pm on Sundays.

Begun in Leamington Spa over seven years ago, the Dice Box format offers guests board games and Lego along with food and drink “in a welcoming café setting”. It is expanding nationally through a franchise model, with Hereford set to be its eighth location.

The new branch is being set up by local firm Two Game Knights, who are Ben Chillari and Gavin Tate.

“The venue will combine a large board game and Lego library with a café, bar and retail space, creating a social experience centred around bringing people together away from screens,” Mr Chillari said.

Customers, who are likely to range from families and complete beginners through to experienced hobby gamers, “will be able to enjoy everything from a casual coffee through to evening gaming, cocktails, events and community nights”.

OTHER NEWS:

“Hereford felt like a fantastic fit for the concept,” he added.

The venue is in the final stages of preparation, and though an actual opening date is yet to be confirmed, “we are hoping to welcome customers very soon”, Mr Chillari said.

Comments on the licensing application can be made via Herefordshire Council’s website until June 17.
