CELEBRITY gardener Monty Don has been delighting fans recalling the time he saw off a herd of Hereford cows wearing just wellies.

The seventy year old said he didn't let the fact that he was " stark b***ock naked" stop him tackling a job as a herdsman.

He told the Dig It pod cast that he had just begun a bath in his Herefordshire home when he heard a moo.

He looked out of his Longmeadow window and spotted the herd of cows munching their way through his Herefordshire garden.

As he explained to his millions of followers on Instagram, the Gardeners' World star leapt out of the water, grabbed a towel, pulled on a pair of wellies and ran into the garden to shoo them away.

But somewhere early in the chase, as he ran towards the surprised bovines, the towel slipped and he was left stark naked running after them.

The cows were in his words: "amazed and terrified by the sight of this dreadful man," and duly slowly wandered back into the field from where they had escaped.

It was certainly a bath time to remember.

The hugely popular gardener is currently reportedly looking at whether to renegotiate his contract with Gardener's World and extend, having been their longest serving presenter.

He also offers tips on his social media feeds and writes a gardening blog where he puts up a diary of when and how gardening tasks need to be completed.

Monty's latest advice is that if you’ve got climbing or rambling roses, and you haven’t tied them in, do it now. This will stop new growth from being damaged by the wind, which can restrict flowering.
