A new digital scheme is helping to break down barriers to technology.
A free tablet initiative is now available at six libraries across Herefordshire, aimed at supporting digital inclusion, improving IT skills, expanding employment opportunities, and reducing social isolation.
The scheme provides library users with free access to modern tablets, helping them gain confidence online and connect with essential services.
Councillor Elissa Swinglehurst, cabinet member for culture and environment at Herefordshire Council, said: "It’s a win: win for residents and various services aiming to help people.
"We’re bringing them together in a comfortable, familiar place to learn how to use digital technology to benefit their daily lives.
"Our libraries have created an innovative, joined-up approach.
"Whether it’s jobseekers looking for information and vacancies, older residents starting to navigate the digital world, people becoming more socially connected online, or patients wanting an easier way to manage NHS appointments, prescriptions and find support – it’s a one-stop-shop opportunity."
Tablets are now available in libraries at Hereford, Ross, Leominster, Ledbury, Kington, and Colwall for use with a library card.
Age UK, NHS Herefordshire and Worcestershire, the council’s Youth Employment Hub, and DWP’s jobs and benefits advice teams are already using the scheme to deliver practical support.
The libraries team is developing a best-practice model for digital accessibility and inclusion, aiming to make technology available to all residents regardless of age or background.
