DESPITE having owned a remarkable Herefordshire castle for over a decade, Richard Hammond has previously revealed that there is one area of the UK that has stolen his heart.

The former Top Gear and The Grand Tour presenter has previously announced his love affair with the Lake District, hailing it as his "favourite place on earth".

After a horror crash from a Vampire Dragster, which left him with a brain injury, he had visions of the picturesque Lake Buttermere when he awoke from a coma.

The presenter had crashed at nearly 320mph while filming for Top Gear at the former RAF Elvington airbase near York.

Although the incident left him with serious head injuries, he managed to make a full recovery and returned to the show in early 2007.

After waking up, he shared with his ex-wife that he had experienced a vivid dream of wandering around the hills, overlooking Buttermere.

In a video published in 2022 by the YouTube channel What Next? The 55-year-old said, despite having travelled all over the world, his heart took him back to the beauty spot every time.

In 2020, The Sunday Express reported that Hammond had achieved a lifelong dream ahead of his 50th birthday by purchasing a house in the beauty spot.

His ex-wife, Amanda 'Mindy' Hammond, reportedly revealed that they had bought a property next to the 2-kilometre lake in Buttermere, completing his Cumbrian dream.

Hammond also owns Bollitree Castle, near Ross-on-Wye, which he's said to have purchased in 2008 for £2million.

After Mindy and Richard announced their separation earlier this year after 28 years together, The Daily Mail reported the presenter had moved out of the family home, and was renting a property near his Smallest Cog Workshop.

The Sun reported that Mindy is believed to have asked to keep the Grade-II listed mock-castle, which they listed as being worth £7million.

According to the News and Star, Hammond has previously been spotted visiting several pubs in the Lake District, including The Countryman pub, where he greeted staff and customers by arriving in a vintage car.
