CAN someone tell me why the emergency services insist on leaving police tape tangled in hedges after a crash scene is cleared?

Driving around the county and beyond, I’ve spotted several instances of this over the last few months. One that springs to mind is the A44 between Leominster and Bromyard.

ALSO READ:

The crash that the tape now hanging listlessly in the hedge was associated with happened months ago, but no-one appears to have remembered to take it with them when they removed the vehicles from the scene.

Presumably it will remain there forever, for future archaeologists to dig up and ponder upon.

It occurs to me that if you or I were to dump plastic in the hedgerows, and it could be traced back to us, we would be in quite some trouble. We regularly hear of flytippers being taken to court and fined heavily for polluting the countryside.

So why is it any different for the police? It’s not difficult to see who is responsible!

Do better, West Mercia Police.
