A popular event that explores financial and economic history is returning to Hay Castle this year.

The Weekend of Mistakes (WoM) will take place from March 21 to March 23, 2025, after last year's sell-out success.

The event will feature panels of expert speakers who will explore the 'ups' and 'downs' of financial history, discuss today's major economic questions, and their effect on the world of investment.

Attendees will hear about 'Money: How it Changed the World,' consider 'Gross National Happiness' as a measure of economic success, and discuss how to fix Britain.

The event is aimed at those interested in economics, politics, history, and investment, or anyone who is curious about these topics.

Anja Shortland, a previous speaker, said: "A weekend that was definitely not a mistake.

"I greatly enjoyed the wonderfully warm atmosphere that blurred the boundaries between the audience and the speakers.

"A wonderful event and brilliant for everyone to share ideas and expertise in this relaxed atmosphere."

The event will take place in Hay Castle, and will feature top investment and economic thinkers, including Russell Napier, Merryn Somerset Webb, David McWilliams, Helen Thompson, and Edward Chancellor.

The programme for the weekend includes talks on How Money Changed Humanity, Gross National Happiness, and How to Invest in a Volatile World.

There will also be explorations of the history of money, from ancient tokens to digital currencies and crypto, as well as discussions on frauds, ransomware, and money laundering.

The event will also consider whether well-being should replace economic growth as a measure of what matters with a Gross National Happiness Index.

There will be discussions on ESG investing, the new energy and climate change reality, the crisis in universities, and how to fix Britain.

Russell Napier, keeper of the Library of Mistakes, said: "This was a Glastonbury for financial historians – there was just a little mud, and the only drug was caffeine, but minds expanded all the same.

"Can’t wait for Weekend of Mistakes 2025 to turn on, tune in, and drop out to the blasts from the past that seem to echo down the ages."
