A WMAS spokesperson said: "We were called to a road traffic collision involving multiple vehicles in Bishops Frome. One ambulance attended the scene.
"Upon arrival we found five patients from the vehicles. The first was the driver of a van. He was assessed and had sustained serious injuries. Four people from further vehicles were assessed and had sustained non-serious injuries."
Police closed the road for an hour and a half after the crash, with a spokesperson saying: "Please be aware that due to a police incident, there is a closure in place. This may cause increased traffic in the area. Please find an alternate route."
The fire service also rushed to the scene, with two crews from Bromyard and Ledbury dealing with a fuel spill and making the four vehicles involved safe.
