Update: Herefordshire Council say that work has been completed and the signals will be removed by 3pm. 

EMERGENCY traffic lights are in place in Hereford after a private sewer was hit by workers.

A spokesperson for Herefordshire Council and Balfour Beatty Living places said the lights are in place at the A49 and A4103 Starting Gate roundabout in Hereford.

Works have been being carried out by National Grid, but a private sewer has been struck, the spokesperson said, with repairs hoped to be completed this morning.

There is very heavy traffic in the area this morning, with traffic data from Google showing traffic is backed up all the way to Moreton on Lugg on the A49.

Other roads in the area are also congested, with a large amount of queueing traffic on both Holmer Road and the Roman Road.
