A DRIVER had a lucky escape after a vehicle ended up hanging over a drop in a Herefordshire beauty spot. 

A spokesperson for Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said a light commercial vehicle was precariously overhanging a 15-foot drop in Ashes Lane, Symonds Yat. 

It happened after the vehicle had left the road at around 1.15pm on Saturday (May 4).

A fire crew from Ross-on-Wye and the restricted access vehicle from Whitchurch were both sent to the scene to make the vehicle safe, which led to the road being closed in both directions. 

Ashes Lane is a narrow road that overlooks the beautiful scenery of Symonds Yat. 

The fire service spokesperson added that the driver had managed to get out, and the vehicle was stabilised using ratchet straps and general purpose lines. 

Crews eventually left the scene shortly after 3.45pm. 

It is understood that no other emergency services attended the incident.
