A FORMER Hereford United footballer has been charged with supplying drugs.

Matt Clarke, who played for the Bulls from 1998 to 2003, has been charged with being concerned in the supply of cocaine and cannabis, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and criminal damage to property valued under £5,000. 

The 50-year-old, of Turntable Avenue, Bromsgrove, is due to appear at Worcester Crown Court on May 7.

Clarke was the manager of Redditch United, but stood down from the position in February "due to personal reasons."

At the time, a club statement read: "Matt Clarke will be taking an immediate break from football for personal reasons.

"At this stage, we anticipate this to be a short break.

"The current backroom staff will be leading the team, and it is expected that this will continue to be the case until Matt’s return."

The Redditch & Alcester Advertiser, a sister paper of the Hereford Times, has approaches Redditch United for a comment.
