A POWYS pub is finally set to reopen fully this Friday, having been hit by numerous issues since the beer started flowing again in January.

Mid Wales Inn in Pantydwr, near Rhayader, spent almost a year closed after shutting in February 2023. The pumps were back in action again by New Year’s Day this year, but then heating and other building-related issues forced the landlords to close temporarily again in February.

However, the popular rural pub, situated high up in the hills above Rhayader, is now planning to open the doors once again this Friday, April 19.

“Just to say the Mid Wales will be opening on Friday 19th, 5pm onwards. Everyone welcome,” said a post on the pub’s Facebook page last Saturday.

‘The Mid’, as it is affectionately known by locals, closed initially in February 2023, but the community rallied round for its thirsty locals, with a group of them instead opening a pop-up pub in the local village community hall several days a week.

The Pub at the Hall, Pant-y-dwr, had kept the village pub vibe alive, not to mention bringing the community together, during the initial 10 months the Mid was closed, opening at Pantydwr Community Hall in October 2023.

The hall even still hosted the pub’s dominoes and pool teams.

“A couple of locals decided to run a little bar in our wonderful community centre while the pub is closed,” said Sam Lipscomb, who had been one of the people running the pop-up pub, as well as being the hall’s booking secretary, in December.

“This is helping support local teams like dominoes and pool, who would normally play from the Mid Wales Inn. It is also hoping to raise much-needed funds as any profit made will be donated to the hall.”
