FIRE crews were sent to put out a blaze started by a washing machine in Hereford.

The incident happened at a property in Windermere Road just before midnight last night (April 9).

Fire crews were at the scene for nearly an hour, but luckily no one was injured in the drama.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said three crews from Hereford Fire Station attended after being alerted at 11.53pm.

A fire service spokesperson said: "Three Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews from Hereford were called at 11.53pm on April 9 to a house fire with persons reported in Windermere Road.

"A washing machine was reported to be smoking but there was no sign of fire on the arrival of the fire service. 

"The appliance was checked for hot spots using a thermal imaging camera. There were none and the washing machine was then isolated and moved into the garden.

"There were no casualties and no other emergency services attended. The incident was marked as pending closure at 12.45am."

The cause of the fire in the washing machine was not stated by the fire service spokesperson.
