A THIEF has been sentenced in his absence by magistrates after stealing alcohol from a shop in Hereford.
Curtis Brant was found guilty of one count of theft from a shop by Hereford magistrates in a hearing last month.
The court heard from prosecutor Lauren Millichip that the 39-year-old, who did not attend the hearing, had stolen two bottles of Yellow Tail wine worth £16.50 from Whitecross Road's Co-Op shop on August 22 last year.
Yellow Tail is an Australian brand of wine which is stocked and sold in most British supermarkets.

The specific type of wine Brant took was not given on court documents.
As Brant did not show up at the hearing, he did not enter a plea.
He was fined £220 and ordered to pay compensation of £16.50 to the Co-Op.
Brant, of Macaulay Avenue, Hereford, must also pay prosecution costs of £135 and a victim surcharge of £88.
