A LARGE search for a missing person was launched by police and the fire service after they were called to a "rescue from water" in Hereford.

The emergency services were called on Easter Monday, April 1, at around 1.30pm.

They were searching for almost four hours without success before they found the missing person safe and well on the riverside.

An ambulance was also called to the scene.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "Two crews, one each from Hereford and Leominster, including the Leominster water first responders, plus the boat crews from Hereford and Worcester, the incident command unit and drone, and the service's rescue dog were called at 1.33pm on April 1 to the Victoria Bridge in Hereford.

"The drone, boats and bankside water first responder crews found no persons and a decision was made to cease the search.

"Police and ambulance also attended."

Although the fire service did not find anyone in the river, police confirmed a person was found on the riverside.

Fire crews eventually left Victoria Bridge at 5.17pm.
