A HEREFORDSHIRE woman refused to provide a specimen after being stopped by police.

Suzi-Lee Cooke, of Ballhurst, Bromyard, was spotted by officers driving a Fiat Punto in Commercial Road, Hereford towards Aylestone Hill at 2.45am on December 14, 2023.

"Miss Cooke got out of the wrong side but identified herself as the driver," said Lauren Millichip, prosecuting at Hereford Magistrates Court.

"Officers saw open vessels of alcohol and said Miss Cooke smelt of alcohol. A roadside test was positive and she was taken to Hereford Police Station where she was asked to provide two samples."

The court heard that the 30-year-old, who pleaded guilty to the charge, refused to provide them and told officers 'send me to prison'.

"She continued to refuse to provide a sample," added Ms Millichip.

"When asked if there was a medical reason, she said her head was banging and wanted to sleep it off."

In defence, Marilena Di Vitantonio said that her client told the police she was the driver and had not shirked her responsibilities.

Magistrates disqualified her from driving for 18 months and handed her a 12-month community order with the requirement to carry out 20 rehabilitation activity days.

Cooke was also fined £50 and told to pay court costs of £135 and a victim surcharge of £114 respectively.
