Met Office snow weather warning issued for Herefordshire

The Met Office yellow warning for snow covers Hereford and the north of the county, with the county towns of Kington, Leominster, and Bromyard falling into the warning area.

The weather warning will come into force at 3am on February 8 and remain in force until 3am on February 9.

Weather warning

The Met Office said a band of rain, sleet, and increasingly snow, will push north on Thursday, bringing up to two centimetres of snow at lower levels, two to five centimetres on ground above 200m, and perhaps as much as 10-20cm above 400m.

Forecasters said the snow will ease later in the day, and may turn back to rain or drizzle, especially in the south and east of the area.

"There is some uncertainty with respect to the rain/snow boundary, and the northern limit of the snow, and so details may change in the coming days as confidence increases in these aspects," the Met Office said.

Weather forecast

The Met Office said today will be largely cloudy, grey and mild for the rest of the day, with most places remaining dry overnight, though largely cloudy skies and just occasional clear spells.

We will see brighter spells in places on Tuesday morning, the Met Office said, with thickening cloud through the afternoon and heavy rain arriving from the north later.

Wednesday will be frosty to start but drier and brighter. The Met Office said there is some uncertainty to end the week, but conditions will probably turn unsettled and breezier with rain and perhaps snow in places.
