A 41-YEAR-old man has been charged with causing suffering to a cow by repeatedly pulling its ears and using an electric goad to make it stand up.
Daniel Hovard of Littleworth, Chipping Campden, is alleged to have committed three animal welfare offences against the cow on November 24, 2022, in Cinderford, the Forest of Dean.
It is alleged Hovard causing suffering to a Jersey cow.
The particulars of the charge, brought by Gloucestershire Trading Standards, say: "Being a person transporting animals he used prohibited methods to get the animal to rise.
"He caused unnecessary suffering to a protected animal by repeatedly pulling the cow's ears and repeated use of the goad.
"Failed to carry out his task without using methods likely to cause unnecessary fear, injury or suffering by repeatedly pulling the animal by its ears and repeated use of an electric goad and by failing to act promptly to have the cow euthanised."
The case was originally listed to be heard at Cheltenham Magistrates Court on December 11 but was adjourned at the request of the defence for legal argument to be heard.
Hovard's case was rearranged until February 5 next year.
