A HEREFORDSHIRE headteacher will be retiring at the end of the academic year.

Dean Williams has led Weobley High School for the past 16 years, with the last eight being as executive headteacher of the federation that also covers the primary school.

However, he said that he decided early on in his career when he would retire.

"The schools have never been in better shape and the future is certainly bright," said Mr Williams in a letter written to parents and carers.

"Both schools have recently had very positive Ofsted inspections, they are full of amazing staff and fantastic pupils, and they are incredibly popular and well-resourced.

"There is also a great depth of experience and leadership; the senior leadership of both schools is highly effective and will continue to provide stability and consistency for years to come.

"I have no doubt that they will continue to go from strength to strength. Equally, the governing body is highly experienced and committed and I will work closely with them to ensure that this transition happens smoothly and positively. This is of great personal importance to me."

Mr Williams added that he will be supporting the governing body in finding his replacement, but will not be involved in the actual appointment.

Offering a range between £79,112 and £91,663, the job advert says that the school is looking for an experienced and talented senior leader with a track record of success within a secondary school setting.

"Enthusiasm, dedication and passion are key qualities we are looking for; these are exceptional schools and we are looking for an exceptional leader to continue to build on our success," it says.

"We are incredibly proud of the quality of provision we offer and have established an inclusive and positive culture where we believe that every child should have the opportunity to learn and achieve within a vibrant and happy learning environment.

"Our schools are packed with amazing staff and fantastic children; supported by caring families and an experienced governing body. Visitors continuously comment on the unique and purposeful atmosphere from nursery to 16 and staff wellbeing is at the core of our success in retaining such high calibre teachers and support staff."

Applications should be emailed to hr@weobleyhigh.co.uk by midday on Friday, January 19.
