A HEREFORDSHIRE headteacher will be retiring at the end of the academic year.

Dean Williams has led Weobley High School for the past 16 years, with the last eight being as executive headteacher of the federation that also covers the primary school. 

However, he said that he decided early on in his career when he would retire. 

"The schools have never been in better shape and the future is certainly bright," said Mr Williams in a letter written to parents and carers.

"Both schools have recently had very positive Ofsted inspections, they are full of amazing staff and fantastic pupils, and they are incredibly popular and well-resourced.

"There is also a great depth of experience and leadership; the senior leadership of both schools is highly effective and will continue to provide stability and consistency for years to come.

"I have no doubt that they will continue to go from strength to strength. Equally, the governing body is highly experienced and committed and I will work closely with them to ensure that this transition happens smoothly and positively. This is of great personal importance to me."

Mr Williams added that he will be supporting the governing body in finding his replacement, but will not be involved in the actual appointment.
