GREAT British Bake Off contestant Saku Chandrasekara from Herefordshire has appeared on the show’s spin-off An Extra Slice to reflect on her time in the tent, including a hug from judge Paul Hollywood.

Saku appeared on the spin-off show on Thursday (November 9) after being eliminated on Tuesday (November 7). She said that she had had an amazing time in the Bake Off tent and reminisced on her favourite memories.

In her first week in the tent, Saku famously shared a hug with Paul Hollywood, which she described as “very kind”.

After watching the clip back on An Extra Slice, Hollywood’s co-judge Dame Prue Leith said: “Do you know what Saku? You brought that out in him. I have never seen him do that.”

50-year-old Saku works as an intelligence analyst for Herefordshire Council, and her manager Charlotte appeared in the audience on Thursday’s show. Explaining what their job involved, Charlotte said: “We try and take data and make sense of it for people and analyse it.”

After looking back at a clip of Saku “bowling” lemons around the tent, presenter Jo Brand questioned her on cricket in a Mastermind-style quiz, in which she scored seven out of eight.

Saku left the competition after failing to impress the judges in dessert week, which saw the bakers tackle a crème caramel signature, a treacle sponge for the technical challenge, and a meringue bombe showstopper.

Right after her elimination, she said: “My heart was broken but I am so proud of myself. It is a privilege to be part of this lovely family. The warm and lovely words from fellow bakers, presenters and the crew were comforting.
