A Herefordshire engineering firm has been given an Immediate Prohibition Notice for workplace safety failings.
M Lloyd Engineering of Stansbatch near Kington was last month found by Health and Safety Executive inspectors to have failed to prevent access to dangerous parts of rotating cutters at its Highlands Works plant.
The firm had also failed to have an exhaust ventilation system examined by a competent person in the last 14 months. This system is intended “to prevent or control employees’ exposure to substances hazardous to health, namely welding fume”, the HSE explained.

It also found the company had failed to effectively plan, organise, control, monitor and review measures to minimise employees’ risk of ill health such as asthma, cancer and dermatitis.
An IPN requires an employer to cease an activity until the specified issues have been addressed.
M Lloyd Engineering designs and makes excavator-mounted screening machinery used in agriculture, construction and landscaping.
It was presented with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2021 and in 2022 had a turnover of £3.8 million, employing 16 people.
