NETFLIX series Sex Education has returned for its fourth and final season, and like its previous episodes, several scenes were filmed in and around Herefordshire.

The series is wildly popular and has catapulted much of its ensemble cast to stardom. It is also known for its eye-catching cinematography, much of which can be attributed to the beautiful filming locations.

Here are some of the show’s most significant filming locations local to Herefordshire, either in the county itself or just outside it in the Wye Valley and south Wales.

Arguably the most famous filming location of the show, an idyllic Scandinavian-style house is actually a chalet situated right on the river Wye and peering over the Herefordshire village of Symonds Yat.

In the series, it is home to protagonist Otis (Asa Butterfield) and his mother Jean (Gillian Anderson). Nestled among the trees, the chalet sticks out due to its distinctive red colour.

You can stay even stay at the three-storey chalet as a holiday rental when it’s not being used for filming. The house includes five bedrooms, three bathrooms, a large conservatory and two living rooms.

In series four, the character Adam (Connor Swindells) gets a job as an apprentice at a farm located near Abergavenny and not far from Herefordshire.

Like the chalet in Symonds Yat, the farm is bookable for holidays, and includes a hot tub, an indoor pool, and the company of animals including horses. It includes four self-catering holiday cottages, each sleeping four to six people.

The farm dates to the 12th century and has the Skirrid mountain as a stunning backdrop.

Introduced in this series as “the bridge”, the Duke of Beaufort Iron Bridge overlooking the Monmouth Viaduct was a new filming location for the show.

If you cross the bridge, you’ll see some beautiful river views over the viaduct.

The bridge was built in the late 1800s and is grade II listed. Today, it is a footpath, but previously it was used for the Ross and Monmouth Railway line.
