A WOMAN has been arrested for wasting police time after emergency services were called to the river Wye in Hereford last night (September 25).

All three emergency services were called to Greyfriars Bridge shortly before 9.15pm after receiving reports that a woman was threatening to jump into the water.

There were four fire crews in total - engines from Hereford and Fownhope respectively, plus the water rescue team from Hereford and a Mid and West Wales Fire and Service crew from Hay-on-Wye.

A spokesperson for Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said a female casualty was rescued from the water by fire service personnel and handed over to the ambulance service. 

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson added: "We were called to reports of concern for a patient’s welfare near to Greyfriars Bridge at 9.19pm.

"One ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Trust’s Hazardous Area Response Team attended the scene. On arrival we discovered one patient, a woman, who following assessment was discharged at the scene."

West Mercia Police has confirmed that an 18-year-old woman has been arrested for wasting police time and is currently on bail.
