AN AWARD-WINNING gin from Herefordshire is launching in Sainsbury's today (September 17).

Penrhos Spirits' Wonky Raspberry is made with wibbly wobbly raspberries from the Penrhos Fruit Farm near Kington that would otherwise go to waste and unable to be sold to shops.

It was named named Product of the Year from the Gin Guide which is given to the gin which receives the highest combined score from the judges' blind tasting, together with the design and branding category.

The bottles will be in over 400 of Sainsbury's stores across the UK, and as part of the new listing, the firm will be joining the Future Brands scheme; an initiative set-up by the supermarket to nurture and grow independent food and drink brands.

It marks the first permanent grocery listing for Penrhos Spirits, along with the first time 100 per cent recycled aluminium gin bottles will be available to consumers in the spirits category in grocery (excludes labelling).

Charles Turner, co-founder of Penrhos Spirits, said:  "Becoming part of the Sainsburys Future Brands family has been a huge milestone for us at Penrhos Spirits.

"We’re extremely proud that our 100% recycled aluminium bottles will now be available in over 400 stores across the UK, providing consumers with a reusable option in the spirits sector.”
