A HEREFORD factory is now up and running following a fire involving its dust extractor.

10 fire vehicles were sent to KGD in Netherwood Road in Rotherwas after Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) was called shortly before 12.30pm on Monday August 14.

Edward Pitt, director of KGD, said the dust in the extractor’s filter had caused smouldering and a lot of smoke, because of “operational accidental issues”.

Mr Pitt told the Hereford Times: “It was more of a smoulder than a fire, but it meant that we had to close that factory for a period. Luckily our fire precautions came into action as appropriate. The fire service was excellent. The factory is now fully operational again, and the main thing is that no one was hurt.”

The fire caused thick black smoke to billow out of the factory site in the early afternoon, as firefighters tackled it with an aerial ladder platform, compressed air foam jet system, hoses, breathing apparatus, two nine-metre ladders and a thermal imaging camera.

Crews remained at the scene on Netherwood Road until 8.30pm the evening of the fire, with Hereford firefighters returning later that night for a reinspection and finally leaving at 11.30pm.

HWFRS said there would not be a specialist fire investigation and believed the cause was accidental.
