FOOTBALL clubs in Herefordshire have shared their sadness following the death of well-known player and coach Joe Taylor.

Gwent Police reported yesterday (Wednesday) that Mr Taylor's body was found after he was reported missing. 

At the time of his death, the 38-year-old was living in Grosmont.

Mr Taylor was particularly known for his stint at Ewyas Harold, a club that is close to the hearts of the Taylor family with his father, Tommy being strongly affiliated with them. 

Ewyas Harold posted orange heart emjois on its social media pages after hearing the news. 

Mr Taylor later joined Hereford Pegasus whom he joined as a coach.

Last year, his under-13s team went the whole season unbeaten. 

Posting on the club's Facebook page, Hereford Pegasus chairman Kevin Bishop said: "The club are devastated to hear of the death of Joe.

"He was an excellent coach within our youth section only stepping down this year.

"Joe also represented the club in the first two years of the veterans team winning the league in the first season. He will be greatly missed.

"Please respect the family's and club's wishes for privacy at this sad time."

Other clubs to pay tribute were Westfields, who said: "RIP Joe Taylor, a very familiar face amongst local football in Herefordshire.

"From everyone at Westfields FC, our thoughts are with Joe’s family and friends at this difficult time."

Meanwhile, Hinton said it was a sad day for Herefordshire football.

The Broomy Hill-based club added that it is holding an open day to raise awareness of mental health on Saturday, August 5 from 10am to 5pm. 

Training and bootcamp activities will take place throughout the day, with a BBQ, soft drinks and refreshments available. 

All donations raised will be split between The Living Room and Herefordshire Mind.
