TOP Gun, a King and Bishop and two cans of beans were among the entrants that delighted and entertained spectators at this years' Kington Wheelbarrow Race.

The colourful array of entries were cheered on by an estimated 2,000 people who lined the streets of the market town on Saturday (June 10).

Competitors raced along the 1.4 mile route only stopping to drink a quick half pint outside nine pubs and clubs: The Oak, The Swan, The Oxford Arms, Kington Golf Club (by Gravel Hill), The Tavern, Kington Football Club (by Kington Court), The Lion Cafe, The Wine Vaults and The Burton Hotel.

First place in the men's race went to Ed Bullock and Sam Maygothling, who completed the course in seven minutes 53 seconds. 

Ollie Hughes and Will Maddy were second, with third going to Kit Hughes and Will Pugh.

The men’s fancy dress competition was won by the New King on the Block and the Bishop of Bradnor Richard Bullock and Bryan Lloyd.

The Lionesses, meanwhile won the women’s fancy dress, while the mixed team fancy dress prize went to the Red Rockets Rollercoaster who also won The Hedley Simcock Cup for best overall entertainment.  

Kington Festival chairman Emma Hancocks said “It was so lovely to see the streets lined with spectators watching the race and soaking up the atmosphere. Well done to all of those that took part.
