THE prison sentence meted out to Kingsland farmer John Price for his work on the river Lugg is appalling and unjust.
There are so many bodies these days that all have an agenda and like to flex their muscles. It’s invariably a minefield.
John Price believed he had permission to carry out the work and has probably saved the village from flooding.

The bare ground will regenerate if left alone.
The plaintiffs and the court appear to have sought to make an example of Mr Price to put the fear of God into the country’s landowners, which is both disproportionate and unfair.
Every time I hear on the news lately of the number of issues of raw sewage into our waterways makes me angry, partly because the authorities seem to do very little about it, and partly because I think if water companies were dealt with the same as Mr Price they would be paying billions in fines and enduring many prison sentences.
