HEREFORDSHIRE Council has introduced QR codes to over 500 bus stops across the county that gives instant information on the the next bus.

Much of this is in 'real time' so you can see exactly when your bus is on its way - making it easier to travel in the county.

Real-time information is a live update from the bus telling you exactly when it will arrive. The information is communicated directly from a locator on the bus itself. If this information is available on your bus then you will see a time in minutes which counts down as the bus gets closer.

OTHER NEWS:

With real-time, you'll be able to spend less time at the bus stop and check when your bus is due before you leave the house, so you can arrive at your stop just before your bus - useful on a rainy day or when you are running late.

If real-time is not available, it may be because it is mopre than an hour before your journey, the bus is in an area with poor signal, it does not have the technology installed, it is broken, or another bus is filling in for it.

In this case, you will see the scheduled time that the next bus is due at your stop. This will be shown as a static time in the 24 hour clock format as it would appear on a timetable.

How to use the QR codes

  • Use your smartphone's camera or QR code scanner to scan the QR code plate at the bus stop.
  • The scan will take you to an information page for your bus stop. You will be able to see the information on when the next buses are due at the stop.
  • There is also the option to have the bus times played to you as an audio file.

Once you have scanned the QR code at your regular bus stop, you can save the link as a bookmark in your web browser so that in the future you will be able to find out the information for this bus stop before you leave the house.
