Four wards in and around Leominster are being contested in council elections on May 4. Here is our guide to each. Incumbents are in bold.

Leominster North & Rural

  • JOHN, Bryony Clare (Green Party)
  • SPRINGER, Mary Jemima Caroline (Liberal Democrats)
  • STONE, John (Local Conservatives)

The current four Leominster wards were created out of Leominster North and South wards, which before 2015 returned two councillors each. Leominster North & Rural extends up to the Shropshire border to include Little Hereford.

In both 2015 and 2019, sitting councillor John Stone got roughly twice the votes as his sole Green opponent, though his time a challenge also comes from the Liberal Democrats.

Leominster East

  • BARTLETT, Jenny (Green Party)
  • DONEGAN, Simon Patrick (Local Conservatives)
  • MURRAY, Marcus (Liberal Democrats)

Coun Bartlett comfortably saw off Conservative opposition in the previous two ward elections, and has also been reappointed unopposed for the same town council ward this time around.

Simon Donegan’s wife Clare said on the People of Leominster Facebook group that he is “on the extreme left of the Conservative party and has a huge social conscience”.

Leominster South

  • CHATWIN, Lorraine (Liberal Democrats)
  • COMLEY, Nick (Labour and Co-operative Party)
  • LOGAN, Angeline (Local Conservatives)
  • WOODALL, Mark Alexander (Green Party)

The town’s Green mayor Coun Trish Marsh is stepping back from both town and county politics, leaving a vacancy in this ward to be filled by a four-way contest.

This will include Angeline Logan, a vocal campaigner for reform of the county’s children’s services, while local folk musician Nick Comley will mark Labour’s first appearance in the town wards' elections since 2011.

Leominster West

  • HANNA, Jill Valerie (Green Party)
  • THOMAS, Clive (Liberal Democrats)
  • WILLIAMS, Allan Merlyn (Local Conservatives)

Another vacancy has arisen with the retirement of a long-standing Green, in this case Coun Felicity Norman who like Coun Marsh is also stepping away from the town council.

However the three who are standing will also be familiar as town councillors, having each been returned unopposed, along with Coun Jacqueline Herschy, for the same town council ward.
