A THIEF was caught with two stolen jackets after he and another man were filmed leaving a Hereford shop without paying.

Kieran Horner entered a guilty plea to one count of theft from a shop when he appeared before magistrates in Hereford in January.

Police were called after CCTV showed Horner and another man entering Hereford's Regatta shop and leaving with two coats without paying for them on January 5, prosecutor Mark Hambling said.

Horner was detained near to the shop, and was found to be in possession of the stolen Nevado body warmer and Daxford insulated jacket, which were worth a total of £79.99, the court heard.

The items had been worn, Mr Hambling said, so were unlikely to be resalable.

OTHER NEWS:

The court heard Horner does have previous convictions, but none that were relevant.

Speaking on his own behalf, Horner, who appeared before the court in a blue and black North Face coat, grey tracksuit, and Nike trainers, said there was not really a lot to say.

"I was not the one who left the shop with the jackets, but I was there at the time," the 32-year-old said.

"I have pleaded guilty to get this over and done with."

Horner, who is of no fixed address, was handed a six-month conditional discharge, with magistrates saying they had taken his guilty plea into account when coming to their decision.

He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £135 and a £26 victim surcharge.
