TWO separate crashes happened on a closed road in Herefordshire this morning.

A police spokesperson said they were called to reports of a crash involving two cars on the C1098 between Madley and Bridge Sollers at 8.05am this morning (January 17).

No injuries were reported in the crash, the spokesperson confirmed.

Officers also found another, separate crash involving a tractor on the road, the spokesperson said.

"For reasons yet to be established the tractor had left the road," they said.

"The driver of the tractor was not injured."

Herefordshire Council's roads contractor Balfour Beatty Living Places has today spoken out to warn drivers not to remove road closure signs or to use closed roads in the county.

The C1098 had been closed during last week's flooding and had not been reopened at the time of the crashes this morning, a spokesperson for the contractor said.

In a plea to drivers, a spokesperson said the flood-hit road had also frozen after temperatures plunged overnight.

Despite their plea, the contractor said a number of their team have been threatened and abused over the closure.

"This will not be tolerated on here or in person," a spokesperson wrote on social media earlier today.

"Our teams are working to maximum capacity due to the weather and keeping the network operational."

The road is among a number of roads that remain closed in Herefordshire today.
