A FAMILY has paid tribute to a "true diamond" killed in a crash in South Wales on Boxing Day.

A driver from Herefordshire was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, with Gwent Police now saying he has been released under investigation.

A spokesperson for the force said 37-year-old Craig Walding from Nelson, between Pontypridd and Merthyr Tydfil in the Welsh Valleys, was the pedestrian killed after being hit by a car.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by Welsh Ambulance Service paramedics.

Mr Walding's family said: “It is with immense sadness that we, as family, have to announce the loss of our beloved Craig.

“Craig was a wonderful son, brother, uncle and friend who was loved by so many.

“He was a true diamond who leaves such a deep hole in all our lives.

“Words cannot express the pain we are feeling, and we would like to thank everyone for the love and support we have received.”

His next of kin continue to receive support from specialist officers, a police spokesperson said.

They said the 33-year-old man from Herefordshire arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving has since been released under investigation.   

Officers attended the crash on the A469, between Llanbradach and Ystrad Mynach at Pontlottyn, at 8.30pm on Monday, December 26, they added.
