A WATER leak has left a Hereford pavement "impassable" and houses covered in sheets of water after being left for six days.

Locals in Hereford's White Horse Street, near the junction with Baysham Street, in Whitecross, said they had reported the leak on December 22.

Pictures of the street show a large pool of water has collected on the road and pavement in the days since the leak was reported, with no action taken by Welsh Water until today (December 28).

Update: This is why Hereford water leak was left for six days over Christmas

Lillian Adams, who lives in the street, said a Balfour Beatty worker was sent to the street to a make an inspection that day, as the problem had been reported as a blocked drain, but that it soon became clear the issue was a leaking main and so he was unable to do anything but report it to Welsh Water.

But Welsh Water had not taken any action to remedy the leak before or over Christmas, Ms Adams said.

"The pavement is impassable in places, and when thoughtless drivers go through the water at speed, front doors and windows are covered in sheets of water," Ms Adams said, describing the collected water as a "lake".

The collected water now extends around the corner into Baysham Street.

Welsh Water engineers have arrived at the scene in Hereford this afternoon (December 28), said Ms Adams, who has also raised the issue with Hereford and South Herefordshire MP Jesse Norman and Herefordshire Councillor Diana Toynbee.

We have approached Welsh Water for further comment on the delay and the nature of the problem.
