A HEREFORD man has been ordered to pay compensation after smashing a window at a city pub.

Alan Gibbons entered a guilty plea to one count of causing criminal damage to property valued under £5,000 when he appeared before magistrates in Hereford in December.

The court heard from Crown Prosecution Service prosecutor Mark Hambling that the 54-year-old had, without lawful excuse, destroyed a glass window worth £300 in the frontage of Hogarths in Hereford's Commercial Road on November 26.

OTHER NEWS:

Gibbons had intended to destroy or damage the window or had been reckless as to whether it would be destroyed or damaged, the magistrates heard.

Gibbons, who is of Kingfisher Road in Hereford was handed a 12-month conditional discharge for the offence, with magistrates saying they had taken his guilty plea into account when coming to their decision, and was ordered to pay compensation of £300 to Hogarths.

He was also ordered to pay a £26 victim surcharge, which is used to help fund services supporting victims of crime.
