PLANS are in place for a new community-run shop set to open in a Herefordshire village.

Much Marcle Community Shop, which can be found on the A449 crossroads, will open with a Post Office and a café.

The long-standing village shop and Post Office closed at the end of June 2019 due to retirement of the shop owner.

Since the shop and Post Office was declared a community facility in the Much Marcle Neighbourhood Development Plan from 2018 to 2031.

Efforts were made straight away to find a replacement, said a spokesperson from the plan's committee.

As the former building was not available new premises need to be found.

This created a challenge but also lots of opportunity, said the spokesperson.

The committee's plan is to serve the community by developing a sustainable shop, Post Office, café, and create a friendly social club.

OTHER NEWS:

Parking spaces and a bike shelter are also on site.

The shop will open due to donations and shares from the community in Much Marcle.

The initial share offer period ended with over 200 shareholders, but new applications are still being accepted.

The minimum investment is £10 per person, which provides one share, while the maximum is £100,000, which provides 10,000 shares.
