WITH Christmas Day now over and done with for another year, some people's attention might be turning to how they get rid of their tree.

And in Herefordshire, St Michael's Hospice is at hand with its Christmas tree recycling service – helping its patients and the environment.

The hospice, based in Bartestree near Hereford, said people can take the "pain and hassle" out of getting rid of their tree by letting it do the hard work.

Anyone based in and around Herefordshire can, for £10, book the hospice's team of staff and volunteers to come and collect their tree between January 6 and 11.

How to book

The cost is £15 per tree and the hospice can collect most sizes, but anything over seven-foot does make it challenging for the team so please consider an additional donation.

Once the hospice has your booking, you can rest easy knowing that the team will come and recycle your tree for you once the festivities are over.

What happens next

The hospice will be in touch to let you know what date/s it will be collecting trees in your area.

It will contact you via the contact details you gave us when you made your booking.

How trees are recycled

Real trees are recyclable and can be shredded into chippings which are then used locally in parks or woodland areas across Herefordshire," it said.

"We send every tree we collect to be recycled in this way so that every part of it can be reused.

"Sadly, artificial trees cannot currently be recycled. However, if they are in a good condition, our retail stores may take them. Please contact your local store to see if they are accepting donations."

How bookings help patients

The hospice said: "All proceeds from our Christmas tree collection service goes directly to providing essential care for those who need it most, at any time they might need it.

"By booking a service like this one, you are helping us to care for patients and families this Christmas – thank you, from all of us at St Michael’s."
