HEREFORDSHIRE MP Jesse Norman has been appointed Transport Minister as new Prime Minister Rishi Sunak continues to appoint his new Government.

The Hereford and South Herefordshire Conservative MP has represented the constituency  since May 6, 2010.

His most recent role has been minister of state in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, having previously worked at the Treasury and Ministry of Transport.

His duties as Transport Minister will include looking after national roads, highways agency reform, the infrastructure bill, maritime, and be the commons spokesman on bus policy.

Rishi Sunak addressed the nation after being officially appointed UK Prime Minister on Tuesday.

Speaking outside Downing Street, the new Prime Minister said the country is facing a “profound economic crisis”.

Mr Sunak said former PM Liz Truss, who was only in the job for 66 days after taking over from Boris Johnson, was “not wrong” to want to deliver economic growth but that mistakes had been made in doing so.

Mr Sunak also took an apparent swipe at Boris Johnson as he pledged that his government will have “integrity, professionalism and accountability at every level”.
