A HEREFORDSHIRE firm has set a new record for the fastest field-to-shop crisp production and put the focus on low-mileage foods.

Mark Green and Sean Mason, the founders of Two Farmers crisps, set themselves the ultimate test this year – to harvest potatoes from their fields, make their now famous crisps and get them on a shop shelf all in under 30 minutes.

With more than three minutes to spare, the farming pair, from Peterstow near Ross-on-Wye, completed the challenge in 25 minutes and 29 seconds.

The record set by the duo beats that Tyrrells, near Leominster, who completed their field-to-store process in 45 minutes and 10 seconds in 2011.

Within 18 minutes, the Two Farmers team harvested a tonne of potatoes and sent them through the washing, peeling and frying process.

Now crisps, they made their way to be flavoured, packed and delivered to nearby Pengethly Farm Shop, where they were placed on the shelf in the record-breaking time.

Sean Mason said: “This has been a great opportunity to showcase what we’re about as a brand in terms of growing the potatoes close to the factory and championing low food miles in the product we produce.”

The pair successfully launched the UK’s first sustainable crisp brand Two Farmers in 2018.

Along with their ground-breaking plastic-free and compostable crisp packet, championing low food miles have always been a key focus when it comes to the brand’s eco credentials.

All potatoes are grown within a two-mile radius of the production unit, and flavours are inspired by bountiful Herefordshire showcasing local ingredients such as Hereford Hop cheese and Hereford beef – the pair are proud to put the county on the map for snack lovers nationwide.
