A HEREFORD festival celebrating one of the county's greatest exports has begun with live music filling High Town.

Applefest is a 15 day event celebrating all things apples, with local businesses, cider producers and community groups banding together to provide an array of entertainment.

The festival kicked off with a bang with a family fun day in High Town, featuring live music, children's activities, cider tastings from a Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) cider and perry tent and lots more.

Visitors to High Town got to see music acts such as Doctor and the Medics, Chalky's Mod, Soul & Ska Show, RP McMurphy the Band, Jenny Hallam, RUBBLE, Vocalise Choir, and The Wilbur and Daddy Show plus music from Hereford Sixth Form College student bands such as Fandango.

The music continues as the sun goes down.

The music continued from midday until 9pm as revellers danced to the tunes.

Other attractions throughout the next fortnight include the internationally-renowned Big Apple Harvestime festival taking place in nearby Much Marcle, and the inaugural Hereford AppleFest banquet also on October 8, to be held amid the splendour of Hereford's historic Town Hall.

Hereford City Council said that the kick off to Applefest on Saturday, October 1 had been a great success.

A spokesperson said: "We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved, including the staff, volunteers and collaborators which made this possible."
