A RENOWNED Devonshire author made a special detour recently to treat Kington pupils to a private reading.
Mal Peet stopped at Lady Hawkins' School on his way home from Liverpool to read from two of his novels, Keeper and Tamar, and also spoke to English students about writing skills and techniques.
Mr Peet received the 2005 Carnegie medal, awarded for outstanding childrens' literature, and as this year's Liverpool Reads author also saw 10,000 free copies of Keeper distributed in the city.
He has just finished his latest book, which should be published later this year
