HEREFORDSHIRE bank workers donated more than £2,000 to charity in 2007.

Employees of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group (RBS), which includes NatWest, took part in the company's Give As You Earn (GAYE) scheme, which allows staff to donate to a charity of their choice direct from their pay packet.

Various good causes benefited from the county's total of £2,306.

GAYE operates on a double match' basis so for every pound given by staff, RBS gives an additional £2.

Last year, RBS and its staff donated over £7.7 million to charities across the UK through GAYE.

Jon Fox, regional managing director for NatWest, said: "Payroll giving is so successful with our staff because it's such an easy and effective way to give to charities.

"Although we operate throughout the UK, it is our staff who are best placed to identify local needs within their communities.

"Payroll giving is the ideal way for us to demonstrate our support and encouragement to the good causes that matter to our staff."
