FIREFIGHTERS have been called to the scene of a crash where a Land Rover Discovery landed upside down in a brook.

Tenbury fire station said it was called to the A456, between the town and the A49 at Woofferton, where the 4x4 was leaking oil into the brook.

All occupants were safely out of the car when firefighters arrived at the scene in Little Hereford, the Herefordshire village on the border with Shropshire, and the road was closed.

A spokesperson for the fire service said the crews used an environmental grab bag, filling a yellow boom in order to prevent any fluids moving out of the cordon.

While they did this, the location of the oil leak was found and a putty was used to stop any further leaking into the brook.

Once the officer in charge was happy, the recovery company used a crane to remove the 4x4.

A secondary boom, using a hose inflation kit, was put in place in case any oil managed to pass through the dam and to catch any of the initial leaked oil.

Absorbent mats were used to collect as much of the oil as possible once the vehicle was put onto the flatbed lorry.

The A456 was temporarily closed to ensure the safety of those working in the area.
