TRAVELLERS who set up camp in a Malvern Hills car park have relocated to playing fields near a town school.

The group, which had set up its camp in the car park at Peachfield Common, has moved to Dukes Meadow in the town after being moved on by the police.

Dukes Meadow is a short distance from Great Malvern Primary School, with the school telling pupils to only come in via the main gates today (July 12).

A statement from the school said: "Due to reports of dogs running loose on Dukes Meadow, we have made the decision not to open the Dukes Meadow gate in the morning.

"Could all children be brought through the front gates where the children will be taken straight into school.

"The situation will be carefully monitored throughout the day. Sorry for the inconvenience."

Police in Malvern have confirmed they are aware of the situation and are working with Malvern Hills District Council to move them on again.

A police spokesperson said: "Police are aware of the traveller encampment on Dukes Meadow Playing Field and are working with the council to resolve the issue."

Anyone who sees any incidents is asked to call 101 and quote incident number 21776/21915

The travellers, in a group of around a dozen cars and caravans, appeared at Peachfield Common over the weekend, being served with an eviction notice by the Malvern Hills Trust on July 11.
