PLANS to build 29 more new homes in Ellesmere Port have been given the go-ahead.

The application to build 29 houses off Cromwell Road was submitted to Cheshire West and Chester Council back in October 2020, and has finally been given formal permission by the authority.

It will join a series of recent developments made near the road over the past decade, as the former industrial estate is gradually transformed into a residential estate.

A planning statement by Paddock Johnson on behalf of applicants Lane End Developments Construction Ltd said the proposal was for the redevelopment of a currently vacant site, formerly an industrial estate, off Cromwell Road.

The site was once home to sports grounds associated with the Mersey iron works, but in recent times consisted of unmaintained grassland and concrete floor slabs.

The statement added the 29 new homes to be built would be a mix of four one-bed apartments, plus 15 two-bedroom terraced homes and 10 three-bedroom semi-detached homes, all of them classed as affordable.

Planners added: "Conversations were directed towards the council and early discussions with the council suggested that the site would be ideal for a residential development.

"This development will bring a positive lease of life to an underused site occupying a prime location in Ellesmere Port."

A total of 58 new car parking spaces would created across the site.

Recommending approval, a council planning officer reported: "The site is located in a sustainable location, close to existing services and facilities, will provide jobs during construction, and spending within the local economy. The proposal also provides an area of open space, providing for a biodiversity net gain which supports its environmental aspect of the proposal, the scheme will also provide 100% affordable housing."

Permission was granted subject to conditions relating to construction work.
